Gaining Momentum for Mutual Growth between Malaysia and ROK through Eco-innovation Technology

Gaining Momentum for Mutual Growth
between Malaysia and ROK
through Eco-innovation Technology

-  ASEIC held Eco-Innovation Seminar combined with One-on-One Consultation Meeting at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center in Malaysia -

The ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (Chairman Kyu Dae LEE, hereinafter referred as “ASEIC”) hosted the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Seminar and Eco-Business Matching at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia, where the International Green Tech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) was held.

This seminar was based on the result of six-month project of ASEIC eco-innovation consulting that aimed to disseminate eco-innovation related idea and technology by targeting energy-intensive sector, the chemical industry in Selangor. Selangor is one of the largest industrial clusters in Malaysia, which is the ASEAN Chair as of 2015. At the seminar, participants shared their own best practices and achievements from eco-innovation consulting. Also, one-on-one consultation between Malaysia and ROK followed in the afternoon resulted in a total number of 21 meetings as well as expected value of about USD 2.4 million.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of greenhouse gases emitted in Malaysia significantly originate from electrical and thermal power generation and production, and the unit price of industrial electricity in Malaysia is 30 percent higher than in Republic of Korea, which imposes a huge burden on local SMEs.

In order to resolve these issues, enterprises possessing induction heating technology, which reduces electricity consumption through electromagnetic induction, as well as, manufacturers of maximum peak power controllers, which can monitor and control electricity consumption participated in the one-on-one meetings, which led to 3 MOUs in total.

ASEIC expects this consulting program and the one-on-one consultation meetings will pave the way for fortifying eco-friendly business networks and robust development of technology exchange between Republic of Korea and Malaysia. ASEIC also expresses hopes for businesses in both countries to seek for mutual interest in the high-potential area of eco-innovation technology, developing the opportunity to increase trade and investment between two countries.
