ASEIC initiated co-research with Institute for Sustainable Resources of University College London in 2016, after discussion with Professor Raimund Bleischwitz, Deputy Director of UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, while his visit to Korea for attendance of Global Eco-Innovation Forum as keynote speaker in June, 2016.Prof. Bleischwitz has been one of the project lead for the EU consortium of Eco-Innovation Observatory (EIO) since 2010, an initiative under Eco-Innovation Action Plan, one of eco-innovation policies of the European Commission for DG Environment.
The ASEIC-UCL co-research includes comparison of ASEM Eco-Innovation Index (ASEI) and EIO’s Eco-Innovation Scoreboard (Eco-IS), to analyze the strengths and weaknesses by assessment of both indices. ASEI analyzes 51 Asia-Europe countries with 20 indices every year, while Eco-IS assesses 28 EU countries with 16 indices that can explain the trend of eco-innovation.
The working paper will be officially published in early 2017, and the research is expected to improve reliability and objectivity of both global eco-innovation indices. As a bridge to promote eco-innovation in Asia-Europe, ASEIC will continue collaborating with ASEM members and eco-innovation related institutions.
