Excerpt: It takes no cutting-edge technology to help change lives. Providing the “appropriate technology” such as a solar cooker and basic waste incinerator is reshaping the lifestyle of the people in the poor province of Takeo, Cambodia. ASEIC - a state-funded organization that aims to work as a bridge between Asia and Europe in encouraging green innovations by SMEs - is currently carrying out this pilot project in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The solar cooker concentrates the heat powerfully enough to boil water and bake bread, and thus could replace firewood. ASEIC hopes that the technology is suitable enough to respond to the local needs and circumstances given the abundant supply of sunlight in the area. Since appropriate technology are not patented and very user-friendly, people can earn money by adopting a distinctive business model.
